Tailored Profiles

Baosteel has developed a completely new concept for an EV battery housing made entirely of steel. For the first time, the tailored profiles developed by Baosteel Lasertechnik GmbH, i.e. the next generation of tailored products based on the idea of Tailored Blanks, will also be used. 

Tailored profiles consist of almost any number of narrow sheet metal strips of different material qualities and material thicknesses, which are formed into tailored profiles after welding. This consistent further development of Tailored Blanks, which utilises all the advantages of component weight, strength, stiffness, deformation and crash behaviour as well as material utilisation, offers immense potential for EV battery housings, as well as for body development and for many other product areas.
